Dermott Juvenile Center embraces a broad spectrum of youth with targeted needs, so every young man feels like he belongs and can succeed. Our program provides a nurturing, trauma-informed environment where youth receive targeted treatment and interventions specific to his risk and need.
Family Engagement:
Dermott Juvenile Center recognizes the role of the family in a young man’s success while placed with us, as well as when he returns home. We are committed to engaging families in their sons’ treatment programs while strengthening family bonds. Families are invited to visit the campus to participate in therapy, enjoy family fun days and celebrate special events or holidays. We facilitate family participation through the use of video conferencing and complimentary transportation to campus.
Clinical Services:
Dermott Juvenile Center is committed to delivering the right services at the right time. Our qualified clinical team works with each youth and his family to create an individualized treatment plan that addresses his specific needs and risk factors. Masters-level therapists provide individual counseling as well as group treatment. Evidence-based treatment groups include Aggression Replacement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety and Impact of Crime.
Academics & Vocational Training:
Through year-round accredited high school and career and technical education programs, Dermott Juvenile Center emphasizes an education experience that links personalized learning to college or career readiness and future success.
Education services include special education, credit recovery and accelerated learning. Students have the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, pass the GED, or return to their community school at grade level.
Through relevant career tracks, students gain practical, applicable skills which allow them to enter the job market with industry-recognized certifications in-hand.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
Participation in athletics and other extracurricular activities have a positive impact on a young person’s cognitive development and overall mental health. At Dermott Juvenile Center youth have the opportunity to participate in intramural competitions, community outreach programs, and club sports. These activities support a healthy lifestyle while developing leadership, teamwork and communication skills that can be applied to other areas of daily life.
